Mount Muhavura (or Muhabura) is located in the south western region of Uganda bordering with Rwanda. It offers a challenging but adventurous steep one-day hike in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, typically taking 6-9 hours to reach 4,127 meters. The hike starts at 7 am with a mandatory briefing, offering stunning views of the Virunga volcanoes and a crater lake. The route is less technical but it is relentless and extremely steep. Muhabura dominates the skyline—tall and conical, earning its name 'The Guide'. Observing its massive scale from the comfort of the farm grounds serves as a mental prep. Establishes the altitude context of the next day's climb and inspires confidence from a relaxed vantage point. What to Expect: Steep Ascent: You will climb roughly 5,000 feet, passing through distinct vegetation zones. Two Key Stops: Points to rest are found at 3,117m and 3,860m. Summit Views: The top boasts a small crater lake and panoramic views of Lake Edward, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and the Virunga volcanoes. Porters: Hiring a porter is highly recommended to help with the steep slopes and bag carrying. Requirements: Basic physical fitness is essential
