Hosted by Red Rocks Initiatives In Rwanda, when the drums begin to beat, the earth itself seems to listen. Dance is the ultimate expression of our history—it is how we celebrate the harvest, honor our ancestors, and welcome our guests. This Traditional Dance Workshop invites you to move beyond the role of a spectator and step into the rhythmic circle of the Nkotsi community. The Experience: Rhythm, Grace, and Power • The Warrior’s Spirit (Intore): Learn the iconic Intore dance, originally performed by the king's elite warriors. Discover how the graceful movements and the "leaping" symbolize the strength of the lion and the agility of the eagle. • The Pulse of the Drum (Ingoma): Feel the vibrations in your chest as you sit behind the Ingoma—the traditional Rwandan drum. Master drummers will teach you the specific call-and-response patterns that have communicated messages across these hills for centuries. • The Grace of the Harvest: Transition to the fluid, melodic dances performed by the village women. Learn the intricate hand and arm movements that mimic the undulating hills and the flowing rivers of the volcanic landscape. • A Community Celebration: This isn't a rehearsed stage show. You will be dancing alongside local youth and elders, experiencing a genuine moment of "social harmony" where every guest is encouraged to find their own rhythm. At a Glance: The CBT Advantage Cultural Preservation: Your participation encourages the younger generation to master and take pride in their ancestral arts. Direct Impact: Session fees provide direct income to the local dance troupes and instrument makers. Authentic Connection: Break the ice with the community through the universal language of music and laughter.
