About this Package
This itinerary is structured to allow for proper recovery between the demanding full-day mountain hike and the culturally rich half-day caldera experience. Experience & Encounters Detailed: 1. The Full-Day Mountain Challenge (Muhabura or Sabinyo) Mount Muhabura (4,127m) A demanding, straight-up climb to a summit with a small crater lake. The name means 'The Guide' in Kinyarwanda. Geological: Summit crater lake, steep gradient testing your physical limits. Ecology: Progression through different vegetation zones (bamboo, forest, alpine moorland). Views: Panoramic views of the entire Virunga chain (Gahinga, Sabinyo), Kisoro town, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. Mount Sabinyo (3,645m) A challenging, rugged hike known for its steep ridges and use of wooden ladders to navigate the peaks. The name means 'Old Man's Teeth.' Geological: Known for its rugged, jagged peaks. Unique Encounter: The summit marks the tri-point border where Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC meet, allowing you to stand in three countries at once (Uganda peak is highest). Safety: Accompanied by armed Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers for safety from wildlife like buffalo and elephants. 2. The Half-Day Community & Heritage Tour (Sagitwe Caldera) Geological & Scenic Splendor Caldera Feature: A hands-on understanding of volcanic collapse. Virunga Vista: The guide points out the Virunga volcanoes and the countries they span. Kisoro Town Panorama: A beautiful overview of the town and the impressive terraced cultivation. Historical & Cultural Encounters The King's Hill History: Stories and folklore of the Bafumbira people, sharing the hill's use for supervision and ceremony in the local kingdom's past. Settle in, dinner, introductions and briefing by your host, final prep for the mountain trek.

Mt. Muhabura OR Mt. Sabinyo Trek Mountain Experience: Full-day, strenuous hike to one of the Virunga peaks. 8–10 Hours Night 2: Rest & Recovery: Early dinner, stretch, and deep rest after the demanding trek.
Day 2 The King's View:
Day 3
Sagitwe Caldera Hike & Kisoro Heritage Tour Community Experience: Cultural, historical, and geological exploration on Sagitwe Hill. 3–4 Hours Night 3 Kisoro Town/Local Dinner Enjoy a local dinner or visit the town market.
Day 3 Optional: Lake Mutanda Cultural Experience
Day 4
Water/Cultural Experience: Dugout canoe trip, scenic views, interaction with local fishing communities. 3–5 Hours Night 4 Final Night in Kisoro Enjoy the last views of the volcanoes.
