Embrace the stunning landscapes and vibrant life of Ankole with the "Ankole Wheels" Cycle Safari. Designed specifically for Community Based Tourism (CBT) travelers staying at or visiting Rwetango Tourism Centre, this experience replaces the speed of a vehicle with the pace of a bicycle, allowing for deep, authentic engagement with the surrounding community and nature. Experience and Encounters: This cycling tour offers a unique, low-impact way to explore the areas where community and conservation meet: • Farmlands and Plantations Immersion: Pedal through the rolling hills and fertile lands in Rwetango. You will cycle past extensive banana plantations and traditional farmlands cultivated by the local community. This is a chance to see up-close how the community lives off the land, complementing their primary cattle-keeping livelihood with supplementary farming. • Local Shopping Centres & Greetings: The routes will take you through small local shopping centres and villages. This offers an authentic glimpse into the daily social and commercial life of the residents. Encounters are organic—expect friendly greetings ("Oreire ota?") from children and adults alike, offering a genuine cultural exchange. • The Pastoral Landscape: Cycle across open grazing lands, observing the iconic Ankole long-horned cattle being tended by herdsmen. You'll see traditional homesteads and experience the quintessential Ankole countryside, characterized by its dotted villages and natural vegetation. • Edge of the Park Thrill: The route includes cycling to the edge of Lake Mburo National Park. This proximity offers exciting possibilities to see wildlife right outside the boundary. You might spot Zebra, Impala, or Waterbuck grazing near the periphery, all while enjoying the vast views of the protected area. • Fitness and Fresh Air: The undulating terrain provides a fulfilling physical challenge, rewarding you with fresh air and a sense of accomplishment, all while creating a minimal environmental footprint.
