3 Day Bodaboda Safari Adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park

About this Package

This cultural immersion, organized by Kikorongo Rest Camp, offers world travelers a unique and intimate exploration of the communities surrounding and within Queen Elizabeth National Park. It swaps the typical enclosed safari vehicle for the open air of a "Bodaboda" (motorcycle taxi) ride, allowing for a much closer connection to the landscape, the wildlife, and the daily lives of the local people. The Experience and Its Encounters: This isn't just a sightseeing tour; it's an active, two-route immersion blending cultural activities with opportunistic wildlife viewing. • Mode of Transport: The Bodaboda o Riding on the back of a motorcycle is the authentic local way to travel, offering an unrestricted 360-degree view. It allows access to village roads and trails often missed on a standard safari, making the experience more engaging and personal. • Unique Cultural Immersion o Salt Mining Participation: A key encounter is the opportunity to visit the salt lakes (Lake Katwe and/or Lake Bunyampaka) and choose to participate in the traditional, laborious process of salt mining. This offers a profound respect for the local economy and way of life. o Community Engagement: The routes take travelers through and around villages like Kasenyi and the cattle-keeping community of Kabirizi. Visitors pass by fishing villages and may interact with the community, perhaps visiting a crafts village in Kasenyi. o Ankole long-horned Cattle Viewing: An encounter with the impressive Long-horned Ankole cattle—an important cultural symbol and source of wealth for many communities in Western Uganda—is a highlight on the Katwe route. • Opportunistic Wildlife Viewing o Unlike focused game drives, wildlife viewing here is natural and spontaneous, occurring as you ride through park areas and alongside water bodies. o Encounters include viewing hippos, buffalos, and sometimes elephants near Lake Edward. Travelers also get the chance to spot various animals on the Kasenyi route, a prime area for game. • Geographical Highlights o Equator Line Stopover: A classic photo opportunity and an educational moment where you stand on both hemispheres simultaneously. o Scenic Views: Stops on hills overlooking Lake Katwe provide stunning panoramic views of the salt pans and the workers. The journey also offers expansive views over Lake George. This tour program maximizes the two main riding routes, allowing for a comfortable pace and the opportunity to engage fully in the activities offered.
