Botanical Class Tour Near Lake Mburo

About this Experience

"Where two centurions meet, nature and culture flourish." Explore a living botanical classroom grown from a conservation story that began in 1969, when local elder Mzee Eriya Begumisa set aside 21 hectares of his land to protect the ecosystems bordering Lake Mburo National Park. Today, that vision is a thriving community campsite and fair trade tourism destination. Guided by an expert local guide, your tour includes: - Ethnobotany walks through curated gardens, spotting native and exotic tree species - Traditional medicine knowledge from the Banyankole community's living pharmacy of barks, roots, and leaves - Farming and conservation techniques, from windbreaks to soil conservation - Craft traditions, including woodcarving and gourd-making - Birdwatching, with over 50 species in the garden canopy The experience extends into the kraal, where you can try traditional milking of the iconic long-horned Ankole cattle and hear cattle lore passed down for generations. Your visit directly supports community conservation, local schools, and the preservation of indigenous knowledge under the Pearl Accord fair trade network. On-site accommodation is available, including homestays, guest houses, and camping.
